    Engineering Manager

    An exciting opportunity has arisen for a growing FTSE 100 engineering support services organisation who are looking to take on an Engineering Manager to support the Combined Weapons Electrical Workshop (CWEW) department and act as a focal point for a variety of contracts.

    The Job

    To define and manage the technical aspects of the support solution for equipment's and systems contracted to Defence Systems Technology (DST), in order to deliver improvements to the services offered to the RN. You will act as the focal point for all contracts (80-90% are weapons based), and be responsible for identifying and conducting design improvements, supply chain improvements and engineering process management. There are multiple contracts, with 2 main contracts totalling around £200M.

    The post holder shall direct and allocate the resources as necessary for the safe and successful planning and execution of technical support activities across the range of contracts managed in the DST business.

    You will be responsible for a team of 6-7 engineers with a range of experience from graduates to senior engineers. Effective leadership is essential to achieve and exceed productivity targets whilst a culture of continuous improvement and lean manufacturing methodologies are maintained. You will promote a learning environment for staff to allow them to reach their full potential.

    The successful candidate should be a strong hands-on manager who 'walks the floor' and helps to drive safety, productivity, quality, cost and customer satisfaction across the team, with a can-do attitude and exceptional communication skills, and with the ability to develop a good team working environment all with an engineering technical expertise.

    The CWEW team currently undertake defect rectification, repair, overhaul and operational support on a wide range of weapon systems and naval equipment in support of the Royal Navy. It supports a wide range of exciting design, manufacture and Equipment support projects, and works with a number of key clients both domestically and internationally.     The Requirements

    • Masters/Degree in an engineering discipline (ideally Mechanical but will consider Electrical)
    • Chartered Engineer (will consider working towards)
    • Engineering Background - must have experience as an engineering manager or similar position. Will need to have a technical competency and an understanding of making design improvements, supply chain improvements and engineering process management. Will consider a variety of backgrounds within any engineering industry.
    • Project Management - experience in leading engineering projects from start to finish, ideally have formal PM qualification or ILM.
    • Team Management experience - must have demonstrable experience of managing and leading a technical team.
    • MoD awareness - have an understanding of military life cycle process is beneficial
    • Excellent communication skills + MS Office proficient
