PPD has an exciting and rare opportunity with the opening of our Infectious & Respiratory Disease Group Therapeutic Area Head. This position leads the activities of the Infectious & Respiratory Disease Project Management Group globally. Responsible for delivering high quality operational input into all requests for proposals (RFPs) allocated to the Infectious & Respiratory Disease group including:
Development and operational strategyBudget development and finalizationPresentation of the right team to win and deliver the projectInteractions with client executives during the business development processPartners with Business Development in securing new business through the delivery of client presentations
Responsible for ensuring delivery of all projects within Infectious & Respiratory Disease on a global basis to agreed time, quality and cost parameters. Provides leadership and coordinates with other functional management to ensure proper study conduct. This position provides an important interface with the client and with other departments, internally, on all aspects of assigned clinical projects. Identifies, develops and implements appropriate policies, systems and processes to enhance the effectiveness of the department and that ensure the delivery of quality deliverables that meet customer expectations on time and on budget. Develops and manages resource allocation plans and budgets, providing forecasts as needed and ensures that projects meets agreed upon financial and operational targets.
Provides management and leadership to the Therapeutic Area management team. Provides structure and direction across therapeutic units for the recruitment, development and retention of key operations staff within Project Management.
Member of the Global Therapeutic Area management team identifying, developing and implementing appropriate policies, systems and processes to enhance the effectiveness of the department in collaboration with the Project Management Standards Group.

Provides strategic direction to the Infectious & Respiratory Disease group across all regions.
Monitors to ensure the timely execution of trials with a focus on quality deliverables. Troubleshooting and contingency planning when necessary.
Provides leadership to staff --- guides overall operations and management of resources to allow for growth of the department and the staff through performance planning, coaching, and mentoring.Responsible for human resource management to include hiring, promotions, and terminations.
Partners with Business Development in the procurement of new business by reviewing proposals, making presentations to potential clients and representing PPD at appropriate professional meetings and conferences.
Ensures that clinical trial projects are properly resourced, managed and executed within budget and in accordance with established timelines and quality standards.
Maintains proper communications and relationships with other departments and interacts with sponsors to ensure communication and good customer relationships.
QualificationsBachelor's degree in life sciencesAt least 10 years experience in clinical research which includes at least 7 years project management experience.Or equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the individual with the required knowledge, skills and abilities.Valid Passport, where appropriate.
