GBP (Daily) An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Board Secretary to work within Central Government on a contract basis. This position is based in London, initially for 4 months offering up to £401 per day Ltd Main Duties: Ensuring that GLDs system of governance supports the Permanent Secretary in running the Department effectively. This includes working alongside a non-executive director, leading work to review the effectiveness of the Board and Committees in line with Cabinet Office requirements Ensuring that governance arrangements are directed effectively to ensure the strategic goals of the organisation are met Supporting the Permanent Secretary, Executive Team and non executives in a fast paced environment running the top level governance and management structure and ensuring the supporting processes work effectively, applying and advising on governance policy as appropriate. Embedding into GLDs governance, effective engagement and communication with staff about decisions and actions that affect them thereby ensuring our governance is open, meaningful and that staff messages resonate. Working with colleagues across the Department to respond to changing priorities, ensuring issues are brought to the Committees and Board at the right time. Supporting decision making at the highest level, and responding to changing priorities in a timely fashion. Managing the agendas for the GLD Board, monitoring the quality of papers, attending all Board meetings and preparing the necessary meeting records. Line managing the Governance Team of two HEOs and one G7. Managing the relationship with the three GLD non-executives. This is a great opportunity to be closely involved in the strategic decision-making and running of the department, working alongside the Permanent Secretary and GLDs most senior managers as they develop and implement strategies for GLD. The role provides ample opportunity to help shape not only top level discussion and decision-making, but also perceptions held by staff through the use of effective communications. Alongside supporting the Board, you will manage a small but busy Governance Team who provide assistance to GLDs five governance Committees. Accordingly the role offers the chance to develop people management skills as well as excellent organisational skills by ensuring that the Governance Teams work remains on track and its reputation high.
